XREFL database

Post by W0sky »

I just setup an XRF using the traditional dxrfd software.

I picked XRF031 because it was empty and no XLX or XRF reflectors we’re using it.

I just got the XRF approved on xrefl.net and it is now listed on their directory. XRF031C is bridged to the skyhublink.com all mode system in Denver.

I want hotspots to be able to connect to this XRF. I do not see it in the latest DEXTRA_hosts downloaded from here:
http://www.pistar.uk/downloads/DExtra_Hosts.txt

DEXTRA hosts claims that they grab data from xrefl.net but the latest generated file does not show it.

Is there anything else I need to do to add my XRF to everyone’s PI-STAR?

Thank You
Skyler

Run an update. The update will pull down the latest list of reflectors and update the various host files on ur install.

XRF has always been a bigger pain than XLX. It would seem that the registration and tracking still is very much a manual process.

Not sure exactly how Andy's process builds the http://www.pistar.uk/downloads/DExtra_Hosts.txt
But you are right as of the 27th update I don't see XRF031 there.

From the comments it says it comes from http://xrefl.net and http://xlxapi.rlx.lu/api.php?do=GetReflectorHostname

I see XRF031 listed on xrefl.net but not on xlxapi.rlx.lu. Since some distro's of software use xlxapi.rlx.lu to get their XRF list you might want to ping them to have them update an XRF031 entry. That way will maximize number of users who can get to XRF031.

I checked http://ar-dns.net/dextra
While a XRF031 is showing up there I don't think it's IP is correct. Might need to contact them to get it updated there as well.

I cant' find the thread but I remember seeing some thread a while back that the DExtra_Hosts.txt file on the pistar downloads site had to be manually updated by the mods so the updates get pushed out to all pistar's. I have noticed that it doesn't seem to always track the correct XRF server ip's,

For good or bad it seems that the XRF list doesn't change much and and different hostspot distro's and hardware packages get their lists from different places. I know ar-dns.net and xlxapi.rlx.lu folks have email address to contact them for additions or changes to their XRF list. Might be a good idea to do that to maximize the number/type of hotspots that can access your reflector. Not sure if getting it into the xlxapi list would get it to pop into the pistar list or whether a mod here would need to add it in to the list on the downloads sever.

Thank You! I just sent an e-mail out to the ar-dns.net and [email protected]. I'll see if they get back.

XRF031 is now in the database
Reporting IP 98.142.187.74

Instruct those interested in linking to it to run an update
either using the hyperlink on the dashboards admin/expert page
Or from the CLI/ SSH pistar-update.

Alternatively if they leave their installs running overnight the maintenance scripts run by pistar should auto update the host file for them.

Yeah, I e-mailed MW0MWZ and he updated the hosts file. He said it has to manually be updated the first time, but then automatically will retrieve updates for instance if the IP changes.

I Still haven't heard back from other sources though. Seeing a different IP on one of the sources. My friend also tried D-Star commander and couldn't get that to work, so I guess I have to contact him.

It's kinda a pain that there is no streamline way to get your XRF out there simply.

It's interesting that it now exists in Pi-Star, but doesn't yet appear with the same IP address at the ar-dns.net site:

Code: Select all

$ grep -i xrf031 /usr/local/etc/*t
/usr/local/etc/DExtra_Hosts.txt:XRF031  98.142.187.74

$ curl -so- http://ar-dns.net/dextra-gw | grep -Ei "xrf031|prepared"
# Prepared at ar-dns.net - Sun, 08 Dec 2019 20:35:12 GMT
XRF031  83.241.141.245
XRF031  xlx031.ddns.net

$ host 83.241.141.245; host xlx031.ddns.net
245.141.241.83.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer 245.141.241.83.in-addr.dgcsystems.net.
Host xlx031.ddns.net not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
In D-Star Commander, has your friend PTT'd with "HOSTUPDT" in the Ur: field to update the hosts files?
