Pi-Star Hot Spot to Hot Spot connectivity?

Post by VK5BB »

Hi,

I am not sure whether this is the correct area, as I am a D-Star user.

However, prior to the upgrade to 4.1.4, I was able connect my hot spot directly with another hot spot with the call sign, module and Link command eg: VK5KHZBL. Also other remote hot spot users were able to link directly to my hot spot as well. These connections showed on the Admin D-Star Link Information Dashboard.

I am presuming that this was that if a hot spot has been on line long enough, their IP address has been added to the Host File lists. I regularly run "Update" to keep these files updated.

Now since I have upgraded to 4.1.4, I do not seem to be able to Link to another hot spot? I did have one remote user Link to my hot spot after my upgrade but that was prior to him upgrading. I am not sure what his status is at the moment.

Is there a 'switch' somewhere that I am missing? (such as in Configuration | Expert | MMDVMHost | D-Star ???)

Appreciate any help or advice,

This is callsign routing in the D-Star world, it still works, but...

OpenQuad took down the old server, you can move to the new one, just head to the config page, turn off callsign routing, apply, turn it back on, apply and you will move over to the new server and should be once again able to route.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the answer, but it did not work at this time??

Drilling into the Host Files, I noticed that the DExtra_Hosts.txt is not updating and is empty?? ( /usr/local/etc/DExtra_Hosts.txt)

Previously when I was able to link my Pi-Star hot spot to another Pi-Star hot spot, we noticed that the link was via DExtra, so could this be the problem?

Thanks for you help and support,

My host file is full of the usual entries, not sure why yours is not, what version of Pi-Star is this?

I have checked, the DPlus_Hosts.txt and the DPlus_Hosts.txt.20210303 and they are both fully loaded.
The DExtra_Hosts.txt and the DExtra_Hosts.txt.20210303 both have header message but no call sign or IP address listings?

Hi,
Some further information. A friend, Charlie VK5VC and I have manually loaded the call sign with respective IP addresses into the DExtra_Hosts.txt file located at root.

We are both running Pi-Star V4.1.4 and are only using the D-Star mode of operation.

We then ran "Update" and we were then able to connect our hot spots together, again.

So the system does still work, provided respective call signs and IP addresses are "in the system".

Several times after running "Update", I have checked both the DExtra_Hosts.txt and the DExtra_Hosts.txt.date files located at /usr/local/etc and found that they were empty, only with the text header information and no listings. The two DPlus_Hosts files seem to be fully loaded.
Charlie has confirmed that the files in his Pi-Star system are also empty.

It seems that with the upgrade to V4.1.4, that there is something "broken" and "Update" does not download data from the Pi-Star website to update the DExtra_Hosts.txt files

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your response.

Thursday 11 March 0910 UTC

Since we have found problems linking pi-star hot spot to pi-star hot spot, as we previously have been able, most times I fire up my hot spot, I have been running "Update".

I ran it again just before this reply and then check both versions of the DExtra_Hosts.txt ( /usr/local/etc ) and both files are effectively empty with only the three lines at the top as below,

DExtra_Hosts.txt

# DExtra_Hosts.txt downloaded from http://www.pistar.uk/downloads/DExtra_No$
# Please report issues at https://www.facebook.com/groups/pistarusergroup/
# File created at Thursday 11th of March 2021 08:17:22 AM UTC

DExtra_Hosts.txt.20210311

# DExtra_Hosts.txt downloaded from http://www.pistar.uk/downloads/DExtra_No$
# Please report issues at https://www.facebook.com/groups/pistarusergroup/
# File created at Tuesday 9th of March 2021 02:17:31 AM UTC

Below the above three lines is empty in both files.

Current version of Pi-Star is V4.1.4

If it means anything, I looked at those files on my system a few days ago -- and just the top three comment lines are all I'm seeing.
