DMR/Brandmeister issues

Post by AC1LC »

I've got my MMDVM - Raspberry Pi Zero with a hat, set up to run Brandmeister, DMR+, TGIF and YSF. YSF seems to work no matter what..in fact I usually have to change the radio to a different talkgroup because America Link seems to be going non-stop.

But, DMR/Brandmeister is problematic. I changed my passwords a couple weeks ago on the MMDVM and on Brandmeister. I've made sure that I change it on Brandmeister Self Care and on the Pi-star software in both configuration and then following up by checking the DMR gateway in Expert. For some reason the Brandmeister password on the Pi-star software keeps reverting back to the old one. I then have to go in the three locations on the Pi-star software and reenter the new password then go to Brandmeister Self Care and enter it again there. Then I usually have to reboot the MMDVM to get Brandmeister to connect to it.
That's problem #1. Problem #2, YSF works great, I can get some of the DMR talkgroups to work but not all of them. And no matter what I do I can't get the DMR Parrot to work. I've used 9990 private and group call, 9998 private and group call, no luck. It shows up on my dashboard and on the Brandmeister Last Heard page that I made the call but I'm not getting the echo return. I don't know what else to look at for that.

Any suggestions for Problem #1 and Problem #2?

Thank you for the concise reply. I did a couple test calls on a different talk groups just now and this is what I got. I can't figure out why the DMR Net is yellow, it looks like transmissions to DMR are going through, at least on the Pi-star dashboard. When I go to Self Care on Brandmeister the YSF talkgroup and the Brandmeister 3100 talkgroup register on there. But, the DMR call to talkgroup 3133 which shows on Pi-star does not show on Brandmeister. Here's what the log says...honestly I'm not sure what it all means.

Thanks, you're still pointing me in the right direction though, I appreciate it! I did find what the yellow DMR Net issue was, the BM password changed back to the old one again. Once I changed it to the current PW it turn DMR Net green.

K, that makes sense.

Again if you ever click apply settings in the main configuration page, its going to wipe that out again, so you'll need to check it every time you apply settings from the main configuration page.

I'd just never use the main configuration page anymore, only use the expert one and you won't run into any more issues with it getting wiped.

Looking at your settings, I see you have

PassAllPC0=1
PassAllTG0=2
PassAllPC1=1
PassAllTG1=2

Where I have: (as the defaults)
PassAllPC0=1
PassAllTG0=1
PassAllPC1=2
PassAllTG1=2

Maybe that could be causing the slots to be on the wrong one. PC is private call, and TG is talkgroup. So you've got all private calls going to slot 1. and all talkgroups going to slot 2.

The other thing is you have a simplex setup which only has the ability to do time slot 2. I'm pretty sure you can transmit on either slot and it will get moved to slot 2, but I don't believe its possible to do slot 1 from the hat, you have to have a duplex hat for that to work properly.
Thank you again. The PC and TG settings I have in there are based on a recommendation from a website to set up for DMR2YSF. I'm not all that impressed with YSF anyway so I'll change those back and see what happens. I thought that because my hat is a simplex MMDVM I had to set it only for simplex. I'll try changing that too and see what happens. After I back up existing settings!

Then they belong in the network associated with DMR2YSF.

In the section you currently have them in it is only dealing with BM, and again its my understanding that nothing needs to change with BM, no rewrites are needed. You just use them exactly as you would if you were connected to BM directly. TG 3100 goes to TG 3100, etc.
First and foremost, thank you for your input. I figured out why the DMR Net was yellow - for whatever reason it would not connect to TGIF. I discovered that when I looked at the DMRGateway log. So, I deleted the whole section for the TGIF network out of the Expert command lines and now the DMR Net light is green all the time. I can hit DMR, Brandmeister and YSF with no problem so I don't know what it was with TGIF. I never used it anyway so it's really not a loss for me. Thanks again for your input and guidance, it's appreciated!
