TP-LINK AC1300 with Pi-Star / Rpi 3+ or 4?

Post by N3WF »

Good afternoon,

I have a Raspi 4 board running Pi-Star, and I am wondering if it is possible to add a USB WIFI dongle (Tp-Link AC1300) dual band WIFI to this system? I interact with both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz systems and would like to be able to do that with my Hotspot.

I can download what I think are the right drivers. But I am not sure how to 'turn on' that USB WIFI dongle, and bypass the Rpi-4's built in 2.4 Ghz WIFI?

Any advice? Thanks

Both the R-Pi 3B+ and the 4B already have dual-band (2.4/5Ghz) WiFi modules on-board. So does the 3A+. The 3B (no +) has NO WiFi (per Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raspberry ... ifications )

The problem is that I cannot get this Rpi 4 to connect to any 5Ghz wifi network. 2.4 is fine. I guess the real problem is that I may have a defective board, but looking for a work-around with parts/pieces I have on hand.
