RF amplifiers for Pi-star

Post by W6CJ »

I see that DF2FQ makes a P8X UHF amplifier for Pi-star radios.
Are there other RELIABLE amplifiers out there?

(Yup, I test with a spectrum analyzer and add filters as needed)

If ur going to add an rf amp to any hotspot do give large thought to the filtering, as the rf source has little to zero itself.
Also in most cases the 7021 dont have that great a seletivity and are somewhat deaf in comparison.

Maybe give consideration to what others have chosen to do and instead build out using an mmdvm repeaterboard and a mobile vhf/uhf radio that can give extra pwr on top of its improved rx gain and selectivity in its receiver.

Andrew & Group;
Thanks. I'll look up that MMDVM repeater board.
Hopefully configuration will be easy enough even for a retired emergency services radio guy.

Amplifiers are a totally bad idea! Your Hotspot will transmit farther..
BUT
It won't *hear* you from that same distance. They never receive as far away as they transmit.

So an amplifier will serve no practical purpose.
