Connecting to my AT&T Hotspot.......

Post by N1JWW »

I have my Pi-Star set up to connect to a AT&T Turbo 2 hotspot I bought from Walmart to use exclusively with the TGIF Spot. I have the SSID set up properly on the Pi-Star Hot Spot.

Dumb question:

Does it matter if the Pi-Star is powering up when I turn on the AT&T hot spot? Does the Pi-Star continually check to see if it's preferred network is live? I try to power up the AT&T hotspot and when it connects to cell tower, I then power up the Pi-Star.

What is preferred and will cause less problems?

If Pi-Star does not connect to a configured WiFi node in a period of time (1 minute?), it automatically transitions to /being/ a WiFi node (access point) and waits for some computer to connect /to/ it -- this connection is solely for the purpose of setting up a WiFi configuration, after which one reboots to let the unit look for (and connect) to the provided configuration.

So... Ensuring the WiFi access point is running first is recommended.
