New FT5 not 'seen' by Pi-Star

Post by G0FVX »

I'm sure this must have been covered before but all I can find is successes with Yaesu FT5 radios!
I have a new FT5 and have set it up exactly as existing FT70 which works OK. After lots of hours trying all the suggestions I can find on the internet I'm no further forward.

The FT5 is heard by the FT70 and vice versa. The FT5 can hear the hotspot when it, the H/S, is transmitting. There are no entries in the log when the FT5 is tx'ing. So my conclusion is that I have something set wrong in the FT5 config.
I have 2 hotspots, and the results are the same on both so I think the problem is with the radio and not the hotspot.

Any help will be gratefully accepted.

BTW I am not a newbie, having setup radios on DMR, DStar and Fusion.
On the other hand, I am in my 8th decade so please be gentle ;)

Youll most prob. need to tweak ur rx offset to better tune to the transmission of the ft5.

Thanks Andrew. I have tried that but I think maybe I'm tweaking the wrong parameter.

Yeah it'll be the value in RX Offset.

Thanks Andrew, I'll try that today.
It's just that with all the radios I have used via Pi-Star, none have needed any 'fettling' to get started.
So no experience with that area. :)

Sorry to be a nuisance Andrew.
First error. I'm not looking in the right place :(
I should be in SSH?
I can get into SSH but then I'm stuck.
Considering when I started in computing everything was command line, I'm ashamed of myself.
I blame age and a "need to know" attitude.
So can you point me at a, simple?, guide please :)
Sorry again!

Using the pistar dashboard navigate ur way to ../admin/expert/edit_mmdvmhost.php.

Scroll a liitle ways down and youll see RX offset. Thats what ur altering. Move in small values given the other ysf radio is working.

Update. I've given up for today. No sign of the FT5 on the HS. Although it does appear in MMDVMCAL.
As YSF header in the BER function. So the HS is seeing it.
I've adjusted th TXOffset from -290 when the FT70 no longer works and +300 when the FT70 input is distorted.
Tomorrow's another day :)

Hello,

My FT-70D needs a TX/RX Offset of -850 to -1500 offset depending on the MMDVM board. My FT-5D's need offsets of 0 (Zero) to work with the MMDVM board.

Use this like to find out what offset your radios need. https://www.k9npx.com/2019/02/hotspot-o ... ation.html
