Raspberry Pi Zero Termination Date

Post by N6CZE »

Is there a date or time frame where the original Raspberry Pi Zero W will no longer be usable?
Will the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W be enough or will it soon be under powered also?
My Jumbo Spot is currently working fine with FW 1.6.1 and Pi-Star v4.2.1 16GB SanDisk Card Speed 10
I read that the processor is a little too slow for the upcoming versions of Pi-Star.
I did burn an SD card for 4.3.0 dated February 10, 2024 and it did run, but there were a couple of bugs.
I am now back to using the 4.2.1 with no problems.

We've always tried to make it so Pistar runs on all raspberry pi foundation SBC's.

unless a day comes where we loose that ability (via something beyond our control) we'll always try to ensure it continues that way.

... that said, if your happy with the slow loading, slow service restarts and slower performance of a pi zero board when interacting with the dashboard then thats fine. Personally I've updated most all my Daily use hotspots to run with pi Zero 2w / pi3A+ hardware. I found these to give much better results / BFTB when interacting beyond just chatting on the radio.
