Color OLED Compatibility

Post by KD8VIG »

Hello,

This is my first post on the Pi-Star Forums and I just recently setup Pi-Star on a ZumSpot device. I have noticed a lot of users are using the SSD1306 two color OLED displays. I would like to add a color OLED display using SSD1331 from Adafruit and I am not sure if it would work with the built in options included in Pi-Star? Has anyone tried using one? I have tried searching for more information on this, but cannot seem to find anything. I will include the link to the specific model I am referring to below.

https://www.adafruit.com/product/684

Additionally, would this be too taxing on current requirements as this OLED contains a DC boost converter to supply 12V to the screen from the available 5V.
Thanks for any and all replies!

Not compatible as that oled uses SPI but the type required for use with MMDVM needs to be I2c. The most common size used is 0.96 inch and come in either white, blue or a yellow/blue. Be careful to note the pin out as some have the vcc & ground switched (only a problem if mounting directly on a Jumbospot or similar)

Edit: the oled uses very little power so it's not really a problem
