Humm - I'm sure that worked for me, but I'll check it..
In the mean time the v4.0 images are still on the alternate mirror: http://download.pistar.uk just in case you need them.

I've had the same experience with a ZUMspot + RPi 3A+. I tried using both the method of copying the 4.0.0-RC4 backup file to the root directory, and booting up a pure 4.1 image. No matter what I have tried, it won't connect to my WiFi. I had no problem connecting to my WiFi with the 4.0.0-RC4 version I backed up. I even tried the method suggested by Larry, KF7L, of adding scan_ssid=1 to the /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf. Nothing has worked.

OK, booting up my Zero here, its just done the first boot and filesystem expansion - seeing where its getting stuck... should have answers pretty soon......

Pi-Star v4.1.0-RC1 on Pi Zero, dropped the wpa_supplicant.conf into /boot....

Boots first time, re-sizes the disk to fill the volume, reboots, imports the WPA config, reboots and connects to the wifi, I watched this on the console of the Pi, it did exactly what I expected and connected properly.

The wpa_supplicant.conf I happened to use was generated by the tool on the pistar.uk website, that tool has not changed at all, the format is identical to the old ones - it works exactly as expected.

About to test a Pi3B+, formatting the card etc to make sure.

Pi3B+ behaved the exact same way, boot, expanded the volume, reboot, import WPA config, reboot, connected to WiFi.

Is it possible you guys are not waiting long enough for it to go through that process? I have to say with my SanDisk 16GB SD-Cards it doesn't take that long...

I'm sure I waited long enough. I must've tried this 10 times using the two methods I described above: 1) using a pure new image, connecting via Auto AP, adding the wireless network, and then rebooting; or, 2) copying the backup file into the root directory of a pure new image, which didn't connect to my wireless network, but instead booted to Auto AP. With both methods, I was never able to get it to connect to my wireless network.

But I didn't try the method of dropping the wpa_supplicant.conf into the root directory. I'll give that a try and see what happens, but maybe not until later this evening. I've been fighting with this for hours now and am a bit worn out at the moment. Time for a break and dinner.

ADDITION: I've tried with two different SanDisk Ultra 16GB cards, one I had been using successfully in the hotspot previously, and the other a new one.

Yeah. I've waited up to 15 minutes. I've done everything the way we are supposed to.

I got one pi zero to finally connect to wifi. The other two still won't. I'm still trying.

Did you try anything different with that one? I'm burning a fresh image with the wpa_supplicant.conf file copied to the root directory right now, but I'm willing to try anything!

Okay, tried this method, but still didn't work. Bypasses connecting to my wireless network and goes into Auto AP mode. If I look at the Configuration page in the Wireless Configuration section and open Configure WiFi, I can see my wireless network entered as Network 0, but it won't connect.

FYI, network name and password copied and pasted from a password manager to eliminate the chance of typos.

I'm giving up for now.
