Having A Hard Time Getting BER Rate Down Using a Yaesu FT-2D

Post by KC9QQC » Fri Jan 04, 2019 4:26 pm

I have a dedicated pi zero w and a zumspot using pistar only for ysf. Also have one for dstar only and dmr only which both of them are working great. I am having a hard time getting the ber rate down on ysf using a yaesu ft2d handheld. I have spent some time adjusting the rxoffset with no luck. I can get it to 0.5% then when keyed up again it will go to 3%. I will get a different % every time I key it up. I can not get the ber in the green for the life of me. Anyone experience this and able to find the issue or issues? Please explain.
Thanks.

My best tip is to key up for longer, at least 3 secs each time, and make a rough average of 3x PTTs before you decide the BER is good or not.
YSF does move about a bit, you can get it in good shape, you probably wont best 0.3%, so if you can get to that reliably - call it good.
