TG both static and dynamic

Post by KC3MLA » Thu Feb 14, 2019 2:30 am

Duplex hotspot, Brandmeister.

TG310 defined as static. Traffic coming thru fine.

Switch radio to another TG and key mic. As expected new TG shows on dash as dynamic. 310 still shows as static.

After a while, switch radio back to 310. Nothing received until I key the mic. But then TG310 shows as dynamic (along with previous one). 310 still shows static.

After a while, both dynamic groups time out and disappear from the dash. Don't think I missed any traffic during the transition.

Is this expected behavior? Is there some other action I should take when switching TG? I read about switching to 9 or 4000 and wonder if I should go there before going back to 310.

BrandMeister recently made some changes, which may be what you're running into. I personally don't use TG 4000 (grp) anymore, as I find its new behavior flaky (but this may get fixed at some point). I now use TG 9 to disconnect.

Isn't TG4000 only for disconnecting from reflectors?

A private call to TG4000 is for disconnecting from reflectors. A group call to TG4000 used to reliably disconnect from talkgroups, but it may not work so well anymore.

What is a group call to TG9 used for?

I did some testing today and found that when using the BrandMeister network, a group call to TG 4000 is now working reliably again. There's even a "Not linked" audio message. Very happy to have that functionality back again.

As I understand it, when you're using a simplex hotspot on the BrandMeister network, a group call to TG 9 is basically a local call to your own hotspot (not sure what happens with a duplex hotspot). My experience is that if I'm linked to a talkgroup and make a group call to TG 9, the result is that I'm unlinked from the talkgroup and it does not become autostatic.
