Greetings Anders,
You can link your Pi-Star node to any other node or repeater in the world that has the proper ports forwarded, but because radio is involved, such as your Pi-Star node talking to your handheld transceiver and similar on the other end of your link, you cannot attain any sort of privacy. There are means of communication available other than radio if one needs privacy.

Plus the licences for the G4KLX software prohibits commercial use too.

One may also run a foul of various countries laws regarding commercial business on amateur frequencies and/or third party traffic regulations -- so one would need hotspots that can be tuned to licensed business band frequencies and use a suitable business band radio (granted, that is pretty much any established DMR radio <G> ) configured to the licensed frequency.

Well yes, and hotspots that are not running the MMDVM firmware on the board too - that too has the same licence stipulation as the rest of the G4KLX stack...

If i say this instead, if i want a direct connection between me and my friend who is also a licensed radio amateur how do i do this? And can i use pistar point to point without having to go through public servers / reflectors ?!
We are both runing using pistar on a Raspberry pi with zoomspot modem!
If possible, we would have been extremely grateful for a description of how to configure pistar?!

As I mentioned previously, you can link to your friend's node and vice-versa if the proper ports are forwarded, but because radio is involved, there will be no privacy as your OP required.

What digital mode(s) do you intend to allow incoming, please? Several people will probably respond once your needs are known. You'll also need to enable the necessary firewall rules for those incoming ports as in
