Yes. Technically, it's a release candidate (RC). But you can find the image only on the Beta Downloads page: http://www.pistar.uk/beta/

Is it my imagination, or has it been in beta for a really long time? And 4.0 never came out of beta?

I see you answered this over on another thread. Never mind.

In early January 2019, the final version of the Pi-Star 3.4.x codeline, 3.4.17, was released, and is currently the only stable release available. It can be run on the Raspberry Pi 3B, Zero W, and earlier boards, but does not support the newer Raspberry Pi boards: 3B+, 3A+, 4B.

Shortly after, the first beta version of the Pi-Star 4.0.x codeline was released in order to support running the newer Raspberry Pi boards that were becoming available at that time, first the 3B+ and later the 3A+. The Pi-Star 4.0.x codeline was different enough from the 3.4.x codeline that it wasn't possible to upgrade directly to the newer line. The Pi-Star 4.0.x codeline went through a few release candidates, but never stabilized enough to become a regular release.

In June 2019, the Raspberry Pi 4B was released. In addition to incorporating some new architecture, it also runs a new version of Raspbian named Buster. In order to support the new Raspberry Pi, the new Pi-Star 4.1.x codeline was released in beta, and the 4.0.x codeline was deprecated. Once again, the new codeline is different enough from previous codelines that it isn't possible to upgrade directly to it. This newest codeline also has gone through some minor release candidates, but hasn't yet stabilized enough to become a regular release.

In the meantime, some Raspbian libraries used by the 3.4.x codeline have been deprecated, so updates to that stable version are beginning to throw errors, though everything seems to be working fine still.

It should perhaps be pointed out that 3.4 is based upon Debian JESSIE (v8), the aborted 4.0 series was Debian STRETCH (v9), and 4.1 series is (as mentioned) Debian BUSTER (v10).

Jessie is for all effective purposes at end-of-life (technically, it is in the Long-Term-Support stage until summer of 2020)
https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/Using... And it appears that the R-Pi foundation is not updating Raspbian Jessie any longer.

I’m actually hearing rumors that development of pi-Star has basically stopped. Something about the developers walked away. Let’s hope this is only rumors.

Not true. While development appears to have slowed way down over the last few months, there was a dashboard update on Nov 1st. There is only one developer of Pi-Star, so that's a clear indication that he hasn't just "walked away."

Please let us know the source for these rumours.

I never understand this type of post. You have no factual information to back up such a post, yet you post it regardless. Posts like this have a direct effect on the people involved in a project, its this type of shite posting that continues the spread of rumour, untrue speculation and unfactual information and in a extreme case can kill the end product.

Next time you hear said rumour, advise the person telling it to you, that is not the case.

On the other hand, it might be viewed as a good thing that the rumor got posted here (with the clear caveat, "Let’s hope this is only rumors") so that it could be fact checked. What better place can someone post something like this in order to find out whether it is true or not?
