Updating MMDVMHost in 3.4.17 ?

Is there a safe way to update the MMDVMHOST version in 3.4.17 of pistar? I would like to test the OVCM features which were made available in the last months in MMDVMHOST.
The Version of MMDMVHOST in 3.4.17 seems to be from 2018. (MMDVMHost version 20181107_Pi-Star git #9444eca)
I am sure that the newer 4.1.0 image has a newer MMDVMHOST version, but since I am running a repeater at a remote location and before i go onsite i wanted to test this.
