I found this that might be useful to others too.
It shows the GPIO Pins for the Original 26 Pin Pi Boards, the revised 26 Pin Pi Boards, and the current 40 Pin Pi Boards. My son's original Pi Board has different GPIO on Pin 3 & Pin 5. So probably best if I leave his Pi alone.
But it is very interesting learning about all of this.

Hi, I wanted to update you that I bought the PI3-B + and with the MMDVM DUPLEX it does the same thing to me, it doesn't connect !! I tried to upgrade SW to 4.1.5 but the FW can't. I read that you can try to update by shorting the JUMPER 1 above the MMDVM but I don't know what other PIN to short, maybe 38 or 40 ???? I have read that sometimes you have to unsolder or deactivate even the schemo oled from pistar .... thanks.

I have still yet to buy a radio to try this on, but I just tried an Update and it went through fine a moment ago. It did do a lot of updates and deleting. I was going to copy what it did to show all, but as I scrolled down the screen on my tablet to highlight and copy the Text I managed to do a Screen Refresh instead which in turn initiated another update. (My bad ). But it appears to have worked OK on my Board and Pi 4, I have yet to try it with my son's Pi 3... Hopefully one of the Pi-Star Team can help you?

You need to short the JP1 pads together inside the silk screen box. Leave this shorted permanently, it has no other purpose.

This allows the STM32 to go into bootloader mode and then to be flashed. Your flash update is failing for this reason.

I know, but I have tried many of those solutions including yours but I do not come out ... once jumpered J1 with a solder I tried to update the modem .... but he does not take it !! Thanks anyway.

Possibly you have locked firmware meaning you need an ST-Link programmer to unlock it using the ST-Link connector.
