Hi Data Loss Percentages On Most Dashboard Entries

Post by vk3kbc »

Hi,

I wonder if someone can suggest why my Raspberry Pi-Zero MMDVM Hotspot Dashboard is showing between 0 and 46% Loss against received callsigns but 0 BER? This is particular prevalent on short transmissions. Longer transmissions seem to have lower LOSS percentages associated with them.

The hotspot is located only metres from my WiFi modem and my internet bandwidth is 50Mbps with very low latency. No other IT equipment is showing any connectivity problems.

The hotspot is running Kernel 5.10.17+ with a standard configuration and has the Pi-Star:4.1.5 / Dashboard: 20211109 firmware.

WiFi Stats are:

Connected To : <Network SSID>
AP Mac Address : <Redacted>4c:1e

Bitrate : 72.2 MBit/s
Signal Level : -55 dBm

Transmit Power : 31 dBm
Link Quality : 79 % (Not sure why it's so low considering that the modem is only 2m from the Hotspot - Wireshark shows no interference on my laptop)
Channel Info : 2.4GHz Ch6 (2.437 GHz)

Interface Stats are:

Received Packets : 7027834
Received Bytes : 1157829580 (1.0 GiB)
Transferred Packets : 4645644
Transferred Bytes : 681618264 (650.0 MiB)

11:55:31 Nov 11th DMR TS2 VK2LT TG 505 Net 4.8 7% 0

Is there any tuning parameter that I should consider to try and reduce the LOSS percentages?

I seem to recall that on early firmware, I had almost zero LOSS against all traffic.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'd suggest trying...

First, a different talk group (your log only showed two non-505 entries).
Second, try a different DMR server

BER tends to be a measure of noise within a data packet. Data loss is more complete (missing) packets coming in from the server.

Hi Dennis,

I do have a number of talk groups programmed but it appears that not many others were in use when I captured the status. Good idea re the different DMR server. I'll give that a go.

Regards,

Ben.
