gps in pi-star

Good morning everyone,
I have a pi-star node with all updates completed to latest version. It
also has a gps module hooked up using the usb port on a pi 3b +. The
pi-star configuration has this feature turned on and we are getting a
mobility log but it appears that the gps data is not being sent to the
aprs on google maps when the call sign is searched.
We are getting gps messages when using the cat command for the port.
Log is also receiving data.
How do we make the link between pi-star, and the aprs / gps google network?

Have you bothered to peruse: viewtopic.php?t=4107

If you are expecting "in motion" position reports -- it isn't done (at least, not without you adding a mass of external scripts to parse GPS messages, send proper APRS messages to the APRS server, and handle beacon timing so you don't annoy users by flooding the server with updates when you aren't moving at high rates of speed).

Everything I've determined by examining code indicates that GPS is a one-time operation when the Pi-Star services are started (most often that means "reboot", but via SSH to a running system one can issue commands to stop the services and later restart them).
I've not seen the older "MobleGPS" code in MMDVMHost, but the newer GPSD-based code (not yet in the Pi-Star binaries to my understanding) appears to spend one minute (60 attempts at 1 second intervals) during start-up to obtain a position fix, which it will send <somewhere> (I presume the server listed in General Configuration, when APRS has been enabled).

"Mobile GPS" is "mobile" in the same way as MASH (mobile army surgical hospital) is "mobile": Pack up at current location, drive across country, deploy at new location (and expect GPS fix to arrive in first minute of operation instead of hand editing the config page -- but if it takes longer than that to get a fix, you may have to restart the services without restarting the GPS receiver).

Good morning,
I need to know which service (the actual name) of the service to
restart which is for gps.
I am thinking that my location information is getting up on
aprs.google even when the node is not rebooted. The numbers show
updates after the node is booted (according to uptime of the node)
However the information on aprs.google is the info that is in the
pi-star config, not the gps location. I know this because I have the
pi-star config set to my location in PA. The node is currently at a
friend's house in Missouri.
Why would the missouri info not be the one showing on aprs.google?

is in missouri.
I did this test with pi-star's gps turned off. I understand that both
cannot be enabled.
It is clear that I am getting gps data with gpsd and all the hardware
works correctly. The pi-star is the latest version.
My questions are this:
1. is it possible for pi-star to use gps?
2. The pi-star config for gps is now turned back on and gpsd is not
installed. Why is this not working?

Did you do this immediately after a restart of the unit? Or was this after the unit had been running for some time?

Triggered by all these GPS threads, and some curiosity, I picked up an old HiLetGo (uBlox 7 is depracated, uBlox is up to 10 series), and a 10ft USB extension to get it to a window ledge.

Monitoring in u-center shows that this device takes a few minutes! before getting a 2D position fix, and over 15 minutes to get a 3D fix.

I've been assuming that MobileGPS is set up similar to the upstream gpsd version of MMDVMHost -- and the latter appears to only allow for ONE MINUTE for a fix to be made (checking at one second intervals). If no fix is found in that minute, nothing gets updated.

Note: if you don't configure gpsd, you should be able to monitor the GPS serial port using "cat" -- but will have to have MMDVMHost shut-down during that monitoring.

The pi-star mobile gps config is also included. Since this data is
coming regularly (even at boot or right after), why does pi-star not
get updated?

To answer the question, I receive data within a minute whenever I
"cat" the device. The information is posted below.
The pi-star mobile gps config is also included. Since this data is
coming regularly (even at boot or right after), why does pi-star not
get updated?
