Auto shutdown via crontab ??

With the increasing cost of electricty we've decided to shutdown our local repeater during the night as no one locally uses it during the early hours. Firstly is it safe to just switch off the Pi or is that going to cause problems to the SD card, if not then how do I get Pi-star to allow a timed shutdown command added to a crontab to run.

Remember the auto updates and maintenance scripting occurs in the early hrs. If ur offline, you'll no longer benefit from those.

Also ur Pi's pulling abt 15watts max (less when idle) approx £1.28 a week idle time.
