Need choose OS help to built RPI Dual hotspot

Post by SM7ZDR »

Hi guys I need some help with which OS to use on my home built DMR duplex hotspot

I am going to build one with this hardware

•Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB
•MMDVM Duplex Hotspot Hat Modul v1.3
•RPI aluminium cooler 2x quiet fans
•10’1 inch RPI HDMI/USB Capacitive touch screen
•2 x Diamond 2m/70cm SMA antennas
•Aluminum RPI case with smoked glass
•32GB SanDisk micro SD card

I do not use an Nextion screen

- instead I use an extern deskstand 10.1” inch RBP HDMI/USB capacitive touchscreen as I hope will work just as fine?🙄

- I only have 2 requirements that it ”shall show the flags of each Country” and ”show TG 1 & TG 2 at the same time 😄

Any suggestions? 🙏🏻🙂

You want the rasp pi image 4.1.15

Update it to the lastest image once you have it burned and configured.

Ahh thanks Andrew :)

which program after that to get the flags and TG1 TG2 etc showing in the display?

maybe this post should be in the MMDVM_HS Hat(s) section instead?

We don't produce any ourselves, so you'll need to search out a nextion image you like the look of and load it onto the screen itself.

There are posts in the nextion section of the forum that make mention of available images and where to find them.

Ahh Sorry Andrew you missed that I have a 10.1 inch RPI HDMI/USB Capacitive Touchscreen desk stand Monitor to this setup :)

Cant I use this for the functions to work?

Or only a Nextion screen is a must have for these Flag/TG´s functions?? :?

Sorry, but the touch screen you got doesn't gain you anything here: Pi-Star is basically a "black-box" with a web server and the web pages it presents (the "dashboards") don't respond to anyone's "touch" (you need an external web browser to access these and not a local screen - "touch" is out of the question here).

The Nextion screens are bolt-on's driven by a customized driver interfacing with appropriately configured firmware in the displays from the MMDVM hat's (not Pi-Star): some screens may or may not respond to one's "touch" depending on which one(s) you install.

Ok so I can do nothing with it as a HotSpot/Node at all without a Nextion screen connected then

Even if I ad a Nextion screen I will not get the Hotspot info out on the HDMI?

Everyday is a lesson to learn somthing new - order a Nextion Screen :ugeek:

No, you will not get anything out on the HDMI.

Nextion's are controlled by GPIO pins -- just a more glorified variant of the old 2x16 Hitachi LCD displays found on so many projects.

As I understand it, the display loads a template on startup which defines fixed/background image data and variable/field areas. It expects a data stream that identifies fields and fills said fields with the contents.

Nextion and OLED screens use serial data sent out via mmdvmhost. DATA that isnt suited to a HDMI screen.
