Pistar stays Close

Post by aa5uy »

Everytime I try to do an Update there appears to be some files that cannot be added and it says going back to original. But my zumspot stays closed and the only way I can get it to work is to reformat the sd card and put an older os on it and older config. file. Can I run those zumspot with a 64 g sd card?
Is the 32 gig getting too small? I have redone the card several times and I think I need to turn off auto update awhile. Any suggestions? A friend of mine has had no issues. So this device has been perfect for a few years now and now I am hitting these problems. Is there a back door fixed?
thank you,
John-AA5UY
I should say that the version is 4.2.0. Even the 4.1.8 had problems. Anyway, I now have 2 at 4.1.8 and one at 4.2.0.
So will see how it goes and maybe some future up date will get them all at the same os and all run well.

Prior to 4.1.7 the pistar image would unpack onto a 2GB sd card. The newer vers. require a minimum 4GB so a 32GB card has more than enough space.

Try setting up again with the latest Pi-Star image using a new, brand name, high endurance microSD card.

I've had several hotspots misbehave or cease working altogether due to microSD failures (corruption). Even though I use only high quality name brand cards, they have a finite life and eventually will go bad. I've learned to use only high endurance cards, make regular image backups, and I replace the SD cards every couple of years even if they seem fine.

John thank you for getting back. I have 3 of these things, one is a dv mega and what I did was format and reflash the same cards to an older version. It seems that 2 of my pi did exactly the thing. It appears that an up date came through and both stopped working. When I went back to the original version, everything was perfect. I did a manual update and they both stopped working. After formatting a new card and put the old os back on it, it was fine. I did an manual update and it stopped. So I just went back and not sure what happened but that update seems not to like my pi-star.
The DV mega is fine. At any rate, the update close the raspberry pi and it never reopened and the modes stayed red and not green. So I think I got it working again with the new version of pi-star but when I do do an update there are some files that won't update and the message is it went back to its original settings. A friend of mine has one connected to our repeater and the digital side has stopped working so no d star on the repeater only FM.
So something is unusual and hopefully it will get sorted out. I do not think it was a failing sd card. I spent a lot of time flashing cards. It is working now but had to reboot more than once to bring it back. Good luck and glad all is good.
Thanks again and hope no more problems. Thanks for writing back. John

Check in the expert editor for MMDVMHost and see if you have FM mode enabled, if you do - disable it.

I went to MMDVMHost and found FM and it is set to 0. So I think that is ok,

OK next have a look at your MMDVMHost log, and see what the error is.

Not sure if my reply went through. I do not know how to capture a log to send.

file path /var/log/pi-star
file root mmdvm

I will look to see if there is something else.

I am not an expert at this but I can say that 4.1.8 seems better than 4.2.0 and I did get 4.2.0 to work on one zumspot but not the other and the rooms and reflectors that I use it works on. So I see voice files that try to install on updating but I think they back out.
thank you,
John
