Hi all, this is my first post seeking some advice.

I have had no experience with Raspberry pi so sorry in advance for any stupid questions.

My goal is to remove the board from a DVMEGA blue stack and mount it to the raspberry pi. SO a couple of questions to get me going.

Would I need to flash the firmware?, is so would it be advisable to flash the new firmware via the blue stack or once installed on the pi?.

MY DVMEGA has a wire presoldered for updating the firmware, should this be removed before installing the board on the pi?


I have tried to find videos on this but have been unsuccessful.

Apologise for the questions, if anyone knows of a step by step guide for what I'm trying to achieve I would be very grateful.

Whether or not you need to update your firmware depends on which version of firmware your board is on. When using MMDVMHost (which is a core component of Pi-Star) DVMEGA must be on 3.07 or higher to use DMR and 3.14 or higher to use YSF.

The wire jumper needs to be soldered to a different GPIO header pin depending on whether you're updating the firmware via the BlueStack (GPIO header Pin 04) or via Pi-Star when the DVMEGA is mounted on a RPi (GPIO header Pin 07). Except for updating the firmware, the wire jumper isn't otherwise used, so you don't need to remove it for normal use.

If I faced this situation (and I have) and I was going to keep the DVMEGA permanently mounted on the RPi, then I would (and did) move the wire so I could easily update the firmware via Pi-Star after I moved the board to the RPi. Usual caveat, though: Soldering a DVMEGA and updating its firmware are at your own risk. The only thing that is guaranteed is that if you wreck your DVMEGA doing this, then you own a wrecked DVMEGA.

The firmware version is HR3.19 so i will avoid updating the firmware and leave the wire attached where it is (for bluestackfirmware updating).

With your kind help thats atleast that part sorted out.

I'm now going to gather some mor information on what to do once i have unpacked the Raspberry pi.
