Repeatedly. The error has been continuous for months now.

Ok that’s what I thought. Hopefully Andrew can weigh in here as to what’s going on.

I'm pretty certain the issue is caused by apt-daily.service.

Thanks so much for your contribution! I’m glad to see more activity on this thread since the last time I raised the issue. I hope others can add to this so we can get a good idea of how widespread the issue is. I would have to think that there is a large population that is experiencing it, my fear is that many don’t monitor this forum, so they won’t be able to share their experience.

Seems possible - then again, just about anything is possible.

If you run ‘lsof’ to see what files are open at any given time, the list is long and painful to review.

This really needs someone that can pinpoint exactly what the issue is so it can be put to bed once and for all.

FWIW:

I have five hotspots, configured as follows:

Hostname PI: *vers status Display Run
pi-star-1 3B+ 3.4.17 RW Nextion 24/7
pi-star-2 P0 3.4.17 RO - -
pi-star-3 P0 -RC6 RO - -
pi-star-4 P0 3.4.17 RO OLED -
pi-star-5 3B+ -RC6 RW Nextion 24/7

All are configured with Zumspot's with the latest firmware (1.4.17).

Hotspots 1 and 5 run pretty much 24/7, without reboots, weeks on end. The Pi-zero's are run intermittently,
for perhaps a couple hours per week. Also, HS's 1 and 5 are hard-wired, whereas the Pi-zero's connect via WiFi.

All boot into a read-only state, but over time, 1 and 5 eventually get stuck in write mode (RPI-RO has no effect).

Odd that the ones stuck in RW are running Nextion Drivers, but that may be coincidental; the up-time seems to be the relevant factor here as far as my setup goes.

Coincidence probable. About once a month my R-pi 3B running 3.4.17 will be found in RW and require a reboot to clear. No display attached, it's sitting on top of a china cabinet near the center of the house.

Great! As Jeff suggests, more feedback is needed, more observations to see if one can narrow down the contributing factors to the issue - a "survey" of some sort perhaps:

1) How often does the issue arise (how prevalent is the issue)?
2) How long does the configuration run before the issue becomes apparent?
3) What are the general configuration parameters (hdw/sftw levels, wire/wifi, etc) for one's setup?
4) How is/are the hotspot(s) used? DMR only, YSF only, mixed usage, reflectors, etc?
5) (insert any other appropriate question(s) here?)

More data is needed to support/refute the speculations.

Nah, next time one of mine acts up, I'll try lsof and see if I can figure out which files are keeping things open.

Great! Should be fairly soon, if my experience is any indication:

Booted all five of my hotspots together 28 hours ago. Two of them are already in permanent RW mode, apparently just in the last 8-9 hours (since I last checked).

Just a thought: could the Watchdog be set to monitor the RO/RW status and create an alert of some sort?
