Hotspot Screen

Post by KN4ZLZ »

Hello...I'm very new to using a hotspot as my following question might show. My apologies up front. :D

I wanted to use a SmartiPi Touch 2 stand to hold my hotspot. Of course this stand is only compatible with the Pi Foundation display which is a 7 inch touchscreen display for the Raspberry Pi. My MMDVM hat, I purchased from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NS ... UTF8&psc=1, appears to have connections for an OLED and Nextion display. I can't seem to find a stand for the Nextion 7 inch display like the SmartiPi Touch 2 stand. Of course there doesn't appear to be a ribbon cable adapter for the Pi Foundation display on the MMDVM hat. Would anyone happen to know if there is an adapter that I can use from the MMDVM hat that's compatible with the Pi Foundation display? Thank you.

KE7FNS...Thank you for the reply. My apologies for the confusion. What I was trying to say was that it would be nice to be able to use the Pi Foundation 7 inch display with my Raspberry Pi hotspot hat instead of the Nextion 7 inch display, however, the hotspot hat doesn't have a ribbon cable adapter that can be used with the Pi Foundation display. I was hoping for some type of adapter that would fit between the hotspot hat and the Pi Foundation display to make the display work.

They're completely incompatible devices.
One uses a video feed, the other a serial data feed.

There are no generic serial data to video converters you could use for this.

There are some very ingenious nextion housings on thingyverse, one of the designs there and a online 3D printing service, and you could have a suitable alternative to the original pi setup you mention.

I found a case on Thingiverse for the Nextion 7 inch display here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2830604.

So if I were to use a 7 inch Nextion display for my hotspot, would I use a capacitive (CTP) or resistive (RTP) touch panel or does it matter?

Interestingly, the hotspot link in my first post hat has a 4 pin header for a Nextion display. A YouTube video such as this one shows the Nextion display connected to the Nextion header: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njrX7Rpawsc. Is this not the way to connect the Nextion display to the hotspot?
