Yep, not exactly by design, but the forum software was getting VERY out of date... and thats never a good thing.

Fully updated today, the one side effect being that the old Pi-Star custom skins are broken in the current version, so for now at least the forum is blue.
I'll re-skin in soon - probably in the next few days...

In the mean time, enjoy the blue - they say a change is as good as a rest

Update: Once the caches caught up, the old styles are working again...

Replying to this because its still relevant;

The current phpBB styles I am using are working, but they are getting quite old and don't match the current forum version, the side effect is that there are a couple of small bugs here and there that need to get squashed, not show-stoppers by any means, but annoying all the same.

I'm working on it and should have updated styles installed shortly...
