Public vs Private

Post by kb2mxv »

Let me start by saying I do understand how Public and Private work on the Pi-Star.

But I believe the settings are backwards, let me explain....

I have no problem with the following....

When set to private, only you can access the hotspot.

When set to public, everyone can use the hotspot.

I do have a problem with the DMR Access list...

The DMR Access list only displays when set to public, if left blank , then ANYONE can access the hotspot, but if you enter DMR ID's in the DMR access list, then ONLY those ID's can access the hotspot.

My thinking is that once you enter DMR ID's, the hotspot is now no longer public, it private.

I would of expected the DMR Access list box to be visible when set to Private, so you can specify who can use it. If you then left the box empty when set to private only you can use it.

Does anyone here think the way I do?

It would make more sense to call this public (restricted) mode.
