The services do not start are in red, can anyone help?

Post by pu4crd »

After the 4.1.5 update the D-star, DMR, YSF services turn red.

They only turn green if you connect raspberry with internet.

I'm thinking about building a repeater without network connection but it's not working.

Can someone help me?

It requires a working internet connection.

Pi-Star is designed to be used as a hotspot, not for a cheap replacement for a repeater controller.

So if i have a problem with internet pi-star dies? that's not cool...

It might not be cool, but its the way it works.
I've already solved the problem, it's working perfectly without an Internet connection. A question if the pi-star is just to use as an access point then why has the repeater functions? I don't think you know anything, sorry...

We didnt write it for repeater use...

We wrote it to cater to simplex personal hotspots.

Then our other world wide users wanted the ability to allow their friends nearby to use their hotspot ( which isnt law in uk) so we added the ability for multiple ID users. so their friends, partners, ham kids etc could share a hotspot.

Then the board developer created duplex hotspot to allow personal hotspot users access to 2 timeslots. So we made pistar compatible with that new hardware and the changes in MMDVMhost.

It just so happens doing all this mimics a repeater usecase. So then board manufacturers, who were already creating boards to attach to external radios created what we now know to be repeater boards.

MMDVM & MMDVMhost, which you'll find at the heart of pistar has been extended to be used as both, but not so much with pistar, its just its evolution keeping up with the changes im Mmdvmhost has seen an uptake in being used on repeaters after
Users seen it could be used that way.
Just like a screwdriver was never designed to be a chisel, pistar was always "personal hotspot first"

So. As jason says pistar was never written to be a repeater controller.

And as to him being wrong? Whilst he doesnt always get it right Image he is one of the more knowledgeable of pistar users i know. And the reason why i asked him to be a moderator of this forum.
