How do I change pi4 settings with no screen

Post by KF0AWL »

This might be a stupi question but I picked up a pi4 couple weeks back and a figured I would use a vga monitor I had for the display. I bought a powered HDMI to VGA converter to go between a wireless keyboard and mouse to run it but my issue is I get a no signal from the monitor when plugged in. I know the monitor works as I check it as a second with my laptop and from what I found I need to change settings in my pi to match my monitor. But how do I do that without seeing what I'm doing? :x

Have you tried both HDMI ports on the Pi? And they both do not work.

Usaually youd run the raspi config to set the screen value but as pistar runs a cut back vers of pi os and given it is designed to run headless it isnt included in the image.

Sent via smoke signals using my SM-G935F

One thing you need to consider here: with the VGA adapter you're using, the Pi may not react to "hot-plugging" the monitor as the required signalling may not be there.

Have you tried wiring up the adapter/monitor to the Pi *before* powering up the Pi?
