Multiple Cores/Threads
Multiple Cores/Threads
Does Pi-Star support multiple cores/threads? I am considering upgrading my hot spot with a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. The additional cores in the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W won't do me any good if the Pi-Star software doesn't use them.
Re: Multiple Cores/Threads
You will notice the difference on the Pi Zero2 W if you are currently using the older Pi Zero.
Will it make your radio experience any better, no, but the dashboard will benefit from the added horsepower.
I had problems with the Pi Zero 2W staying connected to WiFi, but I think that is now fixed on the latest build of 4.3.1, I expect to upload a pre-updated version of that image with the latest fixes in it tonight / tomorrow.
My Zero 2W is on soak test at the moment, and so far it's staying on the Wi-Fi - thankfully!

Re: Multiple Cores/Threads
I updated my ZUMspot hotspot (c.2018 with an old v0.4 MMDVM HAT now running 1.6.1 firmware) two weeks ago from its original Pi Zero to a new Pi Zero 2W. As Andy stated, the radio and point to point comms. are without change but reconfiguration, startup and shutdown times are markedly sped up. The system here has been up with perfect operation since the installation - now running pi-star v4.2.2. Looking forward to taking the leap to v4.3.1 and beyond. Many thanks to Andy and others who have created this excellent system!!!
Re: Multiple Cores/Threads
4.3.x should be out of beta soon, there has been some real weirdness running the current builds (in 4.3.x) on Pi 02W boards that we think we are finally over that.N6PAW wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 2:32 pm I updated my ZUMspot hotspot (c.2018 with an old v0.4 MMDVM HAT now running 1.6.1 firmware) two weeks ago from its original Pi Zero to a new Pi Zero 2W.
